Due to continued growth, we are seeking a motivated Assistant Accountant to join the finance team in Sydney. This is a newly created position designed to support the day-to-day finance function and strengthen the accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their accounting career who is looking to broaden their experience within a supportive and well-established organisation.
The Position:
Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, this is a hands-on and broad finance role will support key accounting processes including accounts payable, accounts receivable and month-end activities, while ensuring financial records are accurate and up to date. Key responsibilities will include;
Accounts Payable
- Process supplier invoices and ensure accurate coding to the general ledger
- Verify invoices against purchase orders and supporting documentation
- Prepare and process supplier payment runs
- Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies
- Maintain vendor records and respond to supplier enquiries
- Generate and issue customer invoices in a timely and accurate manner
- Allocate incoming payments and reconcile customer accounts
- Monitor outstanding receivables and assist with credit control
- Investigate and resolve customer billing discrepancies
- Liaise with internal teams regarding invoicing and customer accounts
- Perform bank, supplier and customer account reconciliations
- Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and review general ledger transactions
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Assist with month-end close activities
- Prepare journals, accruals and prepayments
- Support the preparation of monthly financial reports
- Assist with financial analysis and reporting as required
Ideally you will be a self-motivated and detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys working in a team-based finance environment.
- Accounting or finance qualification (completed or in progress)
- Experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable or an assistant accounting role
- Understanding of core accounting principles
- Intermediate Excel skills and experience with ERP systems
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Circa $80,000 + Super
