The Company
Join a well-established Australian business with a significant national footprint and a strong reputation in its industry. With continued growth across the group, the payroll function is expanding and this newly created Assistant Payroll Manager position will provide additional leadership across a large and experienced team.
Based in North Parramatta, you'll join a collaborative environment where Payroll works closely with Finance, HR and the broader business.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Payroll & HR Services, you'll take a hands-on leadership role across the day-to-day payroll function, overseeing payroll operations across multiple entities while leading and developing a team of payroll professionals.
This isn't just about making sure payroll gets out the door. You'll be a key point of support for the team and senior stakeholders, while also looking at how processes, systems and ways of working can continue to improve.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the day-to-day payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely processing across multiple entities
- Mentoring, coaching and developing the payroll team while driving consistency and high service standards
- Overseeing payroll compliance including awards, minimum wage reviews, superannuation and internal procedures
- Managing payroll schedules, annual salary reviews, profit share payments and month-end reporting
- Partnering with senior leaders around onboarding, payroll matters and issue resolution
- Overseeing employee payroll administration including salary changes, terminations and employee enquiries
- Maintaining payroll procedures and documentation to ensure strong governance and compliance
- Identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes, systems and operational efficiencies
- Working closely with HR, Finance and IT to deliver improvements across the payroll function
We're looking for an experienced payroll professional who knows their stuff technically but, just as importantly, genuinely enjoys leading and developing people.
You'll ideally bring:
- Previous experience leading or supervising a payroll team
- Strong end-to-end payroll knowledge within a complex, high-volume or multi-entity environment
- Sound knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards, superannuation and compliance requirements
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with payroll data and reporting
- A collaborative and supportive leadership style with the ability to coach and develop others
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- The ability to investigate issues, solve problems and confidently make decisions
- A continuous improvement mindset and an interest in making payroll processes better, not simply maintaining the status quo
- Experience with Micropay and/or ConnX would be highly regarded
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Payroll Team Leader, Payroll Supervisor or 2IC who is ready to step into a broader leadership role, or an established Assistant Payroll Manager looking for a role where they can have genuine impact.
- Permanent full-time opportunity
- North Parramatta location with onsite parking
- Hybrid working with 1 day WFH after probation
- Newly created position with genuine scope to influence the payroll function
- Established and experienced payroll team
- Opportunity to drive process improvement and system enhancements
- Long-term career opportunities within a large national organisation
