Smithfield Full-Time - $120k to $130k plus super
Lead a high-energy sheet metal workshop where quality, safety, and teamwork come first.
The facility delivers custom sheet metal fabrication using advanced equipment such as CNC folding, laser cutting, welding, powder coating and production staff to deliver on time and to spec. You’ll be the key driver of safety, productivity, and continuous improvement, ensuring processes run smoothly from start to finish.
What you’ll be responsible for:
- Managing day-to-day workshop activities to meet production schedules and quality standards
- Supervising and coordinating a skilled team of welders, fabricators, and production staff
- Championing WHS, environmental, and quality standards to maintain a safe and compliant workplace
- Monitoring output and promoting process enhancements through lean manufacturing principles
- Overseeing stock levels, consumables, and equipment upkeep to keep operations running seamlessly
- Collaborating with engineering, procurement, and project teams to align priorities
- Delivering toolbox talks, training sessions, and conducting performance reviews to develop your team
- Ensuring a culture of accountability, safety, and efficiency across the workshop floor
- Proven leadership experience in workshop or production management, ideally in sheet metal fabrication
- Solid understanding of welding techniques (MIG/TIG) and fabrication processes
- Skilled in interpreting technical drawings and job specifications
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time and communicate effectively
- Thorough knowledge of WHS compliance and quality assurance procedures
- Experience or interest in lean manufacturing, 5S, or Kaizen is a plus
- Familiarity with ERP or workshop scheduling software is desirable
- Background in training or mentoring apprentices and tradespeople
